AATHEN is firmly committed to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI).
AATHEN is mostly composed of UBC Faculty; as such the number, sex/gender and academic ranks of members are fixed. AATHEN UBC PIs are at various stages of their career (1 junior, 4 mid-career and 6 seniors PIs).
Research Themes: A main focus of AATHEN will be to bring together researchers that are working to understand sex/gender, ethnic, and age-specific differences in ARB effects to optimize the therapeutic use of new compounds in a variety of disease/health conditions.
Support of trainees: AATHEN is committed to promoting an equitable and diverse training environment.
AATHEN will also ensure external speaker diversity. Combined with trainee seminars, attendee will be given equal opportunities to present/network, equal opportunities to be named on new IP, publications, equal opportunities to lead projects. In the event that trainees from under-represented groups are identified, targeted leadership opportunities (student seminar host for instance) will be offered. While AATHEN may need to accommodate international speakers from different time zones and clinicians with atypical schedules, meetings outside the 9 am - 4 pm time slot will be limited.
